Coaching Isn’t Advice Giving—It’s This Instead…
Ever wondered what coaching really looks like? At its core — coaching is about partnership. Let me be real with you: As you build your business, you don’t need more advice from self-proclaimed gurus, free PDFs or Notion page lead magnets collecting digital dust, or to join another jam-packed cohort where you have to wrestle to get your voice heard in the digital room. You need space to hear the answers within you. You need to learn to follow (and trust) your inner compass. Coaching gives you that space. Coaching is co-creative. There’s no hierarchy where the coach is above the client. You, as the client, are the expert of your own experience. Your coach is the expert in creating safe-enough conditions for your transformation. I jumped on a call last week with an ambitious coach. I recently connected with them on 𝕏. The conversation was organically flowing when I found myself excitedly explaining what I believe coaching to be like this… Imagine for a moment: You’re a pilot. You know where you’re flying to. But… you’ve never been to this destination before. So, you invest in a reliable, present, and non-judgmental partner (your co-pilot) to accompany you as you fly. You agree on a (flight) plan. You both strap yourself in, and you set off on your journey together. You know that you might encounter some turbulence on the way. You know that you might have to change your flight path to get to your destination with more ease. But, the whole journey, from your point A to point B — is flown by you. Your co-pilot is present as a supportive guide — gently nudging you along on the journey and supporting you in remembering the supportive resources you already have access to. You begin to feel more comfortable. You can finally slow down and take in the experience of your journey. After some time, you get ready to land the plane. Once you have, you step out of your seat, open the cabin doors, step outside, and take in your beautiful surroundings. You’ve arrived. You reflect on the journey, feeling a deep sense of empowerment that radiates through your body. Because all along — you were the one flying the plane. No one else. Because of this experience, you are now more empowered, equipped, and confident in your ability to fly a plane to other destinations independently. As Benjamin Disraeli once said: "The greatest good you can do for another is not just to share your riches, but to reveal to him his own." This is exactly what the power of coaching does. It’s a revealing process in a safe-enough environment, bringing attention to the riches within you. Blindspots you haven’t been able to see (we've all got them) get a light shone on so that you can be in relationship with what’s been holding you back. So, I'll ask you this: As the pilot of your life (and business), where do you want to fly to? And... What might be holding you back from sitting in the cockpit of life and taking control of the steering wheel? I’d love to hear your reflections. Feel free to hit reply to this email. Have a great week. Big love & gratitude. Coach Mike Whenever you're ready to partner with a supportive co-pilot, get personalised guidance and build your impact-led business that fills your heart and bank account without burning yourself out — here's how I can help:
