You Don’t Have to Be Perfect to Start
You have 100’s of ideas swirling in your mind—ideas that could transform your business and impact lives. But how many of them are still just thoughts? Many ambitious entrepreneurs remain comfortable in what I call: Perfection Paralysis. You outline a workshop, design a logo, tweak an offer—yet, nothing gets launched. Instead, it gathers digital dust while you keep yourself “busy” with other tasks, convincing yourself you’re just waiting for the “right moment.” You become fixated on every fine detail of [insert your idea] being perfect, and so you put off launching it. Sound familiar? I've definitely been here. The harsh truth is: Perfectionism is just procrastination in disguise. The key to progress is action. Your first draft of anything isn’t meant to be perfect. It’s a starting point. Once you have something in front of you, your audience, and potential clients, you have something more tangible to work with. It’s no longer an idea in your mind — it’s a seed, planted into fertile soil, ready to be tended to. Even if an idea doesn’t work out, you can repurpose the elements — just like in nature, where nothing is wasted. What decomposes becomes fertile ground for something new. The realisation that striving for perfection was hindering my progress hit me hard at the end of 2024 during a reflection session. From here, I set myself a bold (and kinda scary) intention to carry into 2025: Close the gap between idea and action. I realised that I had 100’s of ideas that I had never breathed life into. Not every idea was great, but some had real potential. And, thankfully I have them captured. If I had prioritised progress over perfection, I would’ve gained invaluable lessons that would shape my business today. When feeling the hesitation to step into creation mode, this is a reframe I remind myself of:
What ideas do you want to breathe life into this year? The Paradox Of Being Intentional Setting the intention at the beginning of the year to close the gap from idea to action has opened my mind to see more possibilities to take action. While I’m glad this is the case, this week, I’ve found myself overloaded with ideas and information, which has felt mentally draining. One of the ways I swiftly put my intention into action was by launching my first workshop of the year: "The Art Of Purposeful Pricing." (Doors close on Saturday, 15th February) I’ve also been attending a course at a local Buddhist centre, exploring the topic of money and abundance every Wednesday. It’s a joy to connect with people in real life instead of from behind a screen whilst exploring a topic which is often uncomfortable for many to speak about. I’m doing all of this while working my 9 to 5 as a Membership Manager and navigating other areas of my life and business. Now and then, I have these periods where I feel like I’m on a long-haul plane journey to my desired destination (ideally somewhere hot with a beach), and I’m experiencing moments of turbulence. There is no announcement though. It's just straight up dips and bumps as I buckle up for however long I need to. The thing is… I’m the pilot of this plane. And you are the pilot of your plane too. I know that these turbulent moments occur to build us rather than break us — if we are resourced well to move through them. Turbulence is inevitable, but as pilots of our own lives, our job isn’t to avoid it—it’s to navigate through it with the right tools. Where are you flying your business this year? Are you waiting for a co-pilot to take over—or are you stepping up to fly your business where you want it to go? Whenever I feel like my days and weeks are bumpy, I turn to the most accessible tools I have: a pen and paper. Our minds are not meant to hold too much information. I’ve found that writing down any ideas that come to mind as quickly as possible (digitally or by hand) is the best way to give your ideas some breathing room. Try it. Have a pen and paper readily available, or create a page (Notion, Google Docs, Apple Notes) on your phone to capture ideas quickly. Then, create space to sit down with the ideas and expand on them further. I'm sure you'll be surprised by what else emerges from just a small idea. Amidst the slight turbulence of this week, there is one idea that is currently lighting me up. I intend to launch a free challenge. Here are the early stage details: A challenge for ambitious entrepreneurs who want to start hosting workshops as part of their business model. What will you learn?
I have a few name ideas for this challenge. I’d love to know which name resonates the most? (reply to this email with your chosen number)
